요오드(아이오딘)와 전립선암 예방

요오드는 전립선 건강을 위해 필수적이다. 하지만 불행히도 지난 40년 동안 미국에서의 요오드 수치는 50% 이상 감소하였다.
또한 이 기간 동안에 전립선 질환을 진단받은 남성의
수가 급격하게 증가한 것으로 나타났다.
호르몬들을 분비하는 신체의 모든 내분비섬(유방, 난소, 자궁, 갑상선, 췌장, 전립선)에서는 요오드를 필요로 한다. 실제로 요오드는 이러한 중요한 조직들의
구조를 유지하는데 도움이 되는 선상 조직에 집중되어있다.
충분한 요오드가 있을 때 선상 조직은 정상을 나타낸다.
하지만 요오드 결핍 초기에 샘들은 낭종이라 불리는
액체로 채워진 주머니를 형성하기 시작한다.
만약 요오드 결핍이 계속된다면 낭종의 주머니 안
액체가 고체화되는 결절이 된다.
결국 땀샘은 암의 전구체인 과다형성(세포 구조의 변화)이라 불리는 과정을 거친다. 요오드 결핍의 최종단계는 암이다.
이러한 요오드 결핍의 모든 단계는 요오드 섭취 증가로
중단시킬 수 있으며, 때로는 되돌릴 수 있다.
요오드가 전립선을 포함한 모든 종류의 샘 조직에서
낭종과 결절을 제거하는 것을 보았을 때, 가장 극적인 효과는 갑상선과 유방에서 나타난다.
전립선에서 요오드 치료는 질환이
더 진행되는 것을 중단시킬 가능성이 더 크다.

Iodine is essential for prostate
health. Unfortunately, iodine levels have fallen more than 50 percent in the
U.S. over the last 40 years.
During this time period, we have also
seen a sharp increase on the number of men diagnosed with prostate problems.
Iodine is required by all of the
body’s endocrine glands — breasts, ovaries, uterus, thyroid, pancreas, and
prostate — that secrete hormones. In fact, iodine concentrates in the glandular
tissue, where it helps maintain the architecture of these vital tissues.
When there is adequate iodine, the
glandular tissue appears normal.
But in early cases of iodine
deficiency, glands begin to develop fluid-filled sacs called cysts.
If iodine deficiency continues, the
cysts become nodular, meaning that the fluid in the sac has solidified.
Eventually, the glands go through a
process called hyperplasia (a change in cell structure), which is a precursor
to cancer. The final stage of iodine deficiency is cancer.
All of these stages of iodine
deficiency can be halted, and sometimes reversed, with increased iodine intake.
While I have seen iodine get rid of
cysts and nodules in all types of glandular tissue — the prostate included —
the most dramatic effects occur in the thyroid and the breasts.
In the prostate, iodine therapy is
more likely to stop further progression rather than reverse it.
